Inclusive Education

Warrnambool College embraces diversity. Our school aims to provide opportunities for all students to learn and help them at their point of need. Inclusion is about being fair, flexible, and ensuring all students can access and participate in learning.

Disability Inclusion is a government school program that ensures every student, regardless of ability, thrives at school and in life. It means our school:

    • includes students with disabilities and learning difficulties
    • teaches students in a way that works for them
    • receives funding to pay for things that help students with a disability
    • provides training and coaching to teachers and support staff about the best ways to support student learning

Multi-tiered system of support for student learning needs

Tier 1 (all students)

    • Inclusive curriculum design
    • High expectations for all students
    • Responsive to student needs
    • Making adjustments based on assessment and reporting data

    Tier 2 (some students)

      • Student Support Group meetings
      • Individual Education Plans
      • Adjustments for learning and special provisions for assessments
      • Targeted interventions for literacy, numeracy, self-regulation, emotional awareness and self regulation, forming relationships, interacting according to social rules, self-efficacy and career planning.

Tier 3 (intensive and personalised support)

Some students will be invited to participate in a Disability Inclusion Profile. We follow specific steps to work out what support the student with a disability needs and then create a profile about the things the student is good at and ways the school can support them. This support may include help with classwork, help to get along with other students or help to regulate.

The goal is to enable participation so students can experience success.

Inclusive Ed Hub & Study Support Centre

Students with high support needs can have a locker near the Inclusive Ed Hub and Learning Support Centre. Staffed by teacher aides, the Hub and Learning Support Centre provide:

    • support for students to be organised and ready to learn with the appropriate materials
    • a quiet space for students with additional learning needs to regulate throughout the day
    • a place to connect with other students during breaks in a supervised indoor space
    • extra assistance from a teacher aide to complete learning and assessment tasks
